Pop Quiz, Monday with Shaun Savage
The Pop Quiz, Monday, is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise, after all, since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today, who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
1. Can you please tell everyone your name?
Shaun Savage
2. Tell us about your business and what you do?
GoShare connects truck and van owners with people and businesses who need help moving or delivering large items on demand. We develop proprietary technology to make it easier than ever to get a truck with a delivery pro when you need it. For truck owners, our technology makes it easier for them to do their job and communicate with customers. We’ve published two iPhone apps, two android apps, and two web apps to make moving and delivery seamless.
3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?
I think the main reason that I wanted to become an entrepreneur was that I have always created new things, and I never enjoyed working for other people. I was the kid with the lemonade stand and the neighborhood lawn mowing business.
4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?
How much time do you have? There are many challenges you face when running a business, including but not limited to: managing large groups of diverse people, dealing with changing regulations trying to keep thousands of customers happy, balancing supply and demand.
5. What do you love most about your job?
I love the people. They were all handpicked for a good reason. The best part of being an entrepreneur, in my opinion, is having the ability to choose who you work with.
6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
At the office, we have a variety of things to do other than work (video games, ping pong, golf, darts, etc.). At one point, we had a fun prank war with one of our neighbors in the office. Most recently, we took the team out for high-speed Go-Kart racing.
7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?
2pac said it best, “Keep ya head up.” Be positive when facing adversity. Also, stay aware and pay attention to what’s happening in your business.
