A Hackathon for Experimental Minds and Creative Programming

The #ArtProject Community and beyond, is invited to learn about the Kusama Network and how to get involved with Hackusama

What is the Kusama Network?

Kusama is a wild and fast-moving network, launched in 2019 as an early version of Polkadot, a next-generation sharded blockchain network. Both support interchain communication, collaboration and shared security, with an architecture consisting of a relay chain that interacts with sharded chains running in parallel, known as parachains.

What is Hackusama?

Hackusama is the first-ever hackathon for the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystem. The hackathon is split up in two categories: Build a Blockchain and an Open Hack — there is ample room for creativity.

What is the #ArtProject Community?

#ArtProject Decentralized is a community of artists, technologists, collectors, curators, and programmers who live and interact in a Telegram channel. The collective is born after a necessity to interact with people from different fields to explore the convergence between art and blockchain. This group of like-minded people gather in hackathons, and events via calls by generating unexpected connections that result in prosperous collaborations.

How can artists become team members at Hackusama?

The Kusama network is experimental in nature. Its ethos and sole existence is trial and error. The perfect scenario for artists to explore!

Here are a few ideas on how artists can get involved:

  • Blockchains as creative tools for experimentation
  • UX/UI are needed in any application development
  • NFTs and digital art can be explored using Kusama
  • Finding technical solutions that can be submitted through the lens of art and design
  • Kusama is open to futuristic concepts such as AR/VR
  • Hardware and data integrations
  • Data visualizations
  • Other experimental ideas that are unusual and even whacky!

How can you get started and find a team?

  1. Go to
  2. Sign up
  3. Find Hackusama

Or go to

  1. Register for the hackathon and write a short introduction, including what your skillset is and how you can best contribute to projects.

Alternatively, you can also find specific teammates that are currently looking for ways of forming a team.

Once you find someone you’d like to work with, simply send them a request to team-up and include a short message.

There are currently only four people looking for teammates that are describing themselves as Designers. There is a great opportunity to help out with great designs or even work on separate art projects — and win amazing prizes!
