I’ll start this review letting you know that our team of reviewers had very different opinions about Chris Rock’s two comedy specials released by Netflix. One thing that we can all agree on is that everyone was moved by his sentiments and everyone had an opinion, some stronger than others.
Overall Chris Rock’s Netflix 2 1/2 hour-long collective specials, are refreshing and controversial stand-up comedy that is different from anything that he has done in the past. With his signature wit and humor, Rock takes on difficult issues such as racism, police brutality, religion, and marriage, and he doesn’t shy away from hard truths or provide easy solutions. Rock dives into the state of race relations in America, candidly discussing the need for real and lasting change. He is unafraid to speak the truth about the way people of color are affected by the current political climate, and points out the need to move forward and make progress. He also delves into the importance of having conversations about these topics, and the need to confront difficult issues in order to bring about real, positive change.
