It’s hard to imagine that someone could read this book and not be moved by the courage and determination that Ms. Davis has expressed throughout her life as an artist and a woman.

The memoir “Finding Me” by Viola Davis is a powerful and inspiring read. I felt like I was on an unforgettable journey as she recounted her life, from poverty, to one of the most acclaimed actresses of our time. The memoir sheds light on the challenges she faced growing up and how she overcame them. I found myself able to personally identify with many of the stories that she shared from her childhood, erupting a myriad of both painful and nostalgic memories.

“Finding Me” takes us through Viola’s childhood in and impoverished Rhode Island and the, all too familiar, challenges she faced early on. Ms. Davis shares her struggles with depression and losing close family members, and how these life events affected her and her decisions. She also goes into great detail about how she was able to find her own identity and her passion for the performing arts, with which it seems, she was always gifted.

Davis’ writing is compelling, pure, and filled with eye-opening honesty. She shares both the positive and negative experiences she had throughout her life. She provides a unique insight into her life that I found completely relatable. I felt so seen, I felt like I was not alone and I knew that this story would be touching millions in the same way.

This book is a captivating exploration of her personal journey through childhood and adulthood. I don’t always have an interest in somone’s memior, but I had imagined that hearing Viola Davis’ story, from Annalise Keating’s voice, would be a winner, and I wasn’t disappointed! This book made it clear why the “How to get away with Murder” actress was able to bring so much depth to the popular television series’ character. She’s seen a lot in her lifetime, and she has experienced it with a profundity that makes for a great read and an awesome life.

The book is organized into four main sections that cover the most traumatic parts of Viola’s life. She describes the difficulties and trials she faced as a child, including domestic violence, poverty, and racism. Through her eyes, we are able to feel the pain and suffering of her experiences. However, despite these hardships, she is still able to find strength and optimism within herself.

One of the best aspects of this book is its candid tone. She speaks openly about her emotions and her thoughts, which, in turn, makes it easier to relate and empathize with her. As she moves through each part of the book, you can’t help but be moved by her focus and passion for her life and creative pursuits.

In addition to being an inspiring story, the book is also beautifully written. Viola Davis’ prose is vivid and descriptive and her words come alive on the page. As the book progresses, her writing style and her life circumstances shift from melancholic to hopeful, uplifting and triumphant.

We all love a happy ending and it’s a great joy to see this Queen realize her happy ending in process. Review Vlog Studio highly recommends this book to anyone looking for a source of strength and motivation. It’s recommended for the multitudes of American’s who share a similar background. This book is recommended for all those who have never experienced any of these problems and hardships in their own childhood, in order to expand your horizons and empathy, because what Viola experienced is all too common for millions of Americans. Viola Davis’ story left a lasting impression, similar to Alice Walker’s, “The Color Purple”, and that speaks volumes.
