In a few days, the galleries in Denver’s art District on Santa Fe will open their doors and show the most exciting work in the city. The winter months seem to result in somewhat of a lull in attendance for First Friday events, so for this weekend, I created a brief list of the most interesting galleries I saw last month.

Galleries you shouldn’t miss this Friday:

  1. Michael Warren Contemporary- “colorful abstract and figurative work alongside contemplative sculpture, installations, works on paper and photography with particular emphasis on materials and process” http://www.michaelwarrencontemporary.com/
  2. Georgia Amar’s Habitat — A small habitat gallery displaying some of the most unique and surprising artwork we have seen in Denver, including work from Georgia Amar, Blake Flynn, Jim Stevens, and Jeff Harrison. http://www.georgiaamarfineart.com/
  3. Spark Gallery — Spark Gallery is the oldest cooperative gallery in Denver displaying a wide range of work from artists of different levels of experience and styles. http://www.sparkgallery.com/
  4. Bitfactory- Built on the concept of a forum for the visual arts, Bitfactory is built with several studios attached to the main gallery, encouraging a collaborative environment amongst artist- and the quality of the work on display shows. http://bitfactory.net/
  5. Point Gallery- Point gallery has a very open space with high ceilings and a lot of square footage making it a popular event space. With some of the coolest contemporary and pop art in Denver, their collection of artwork is even more impressive than the space they present it in.
  6. John Fielder’s Colorado- boasts over 100 breathtaking landscape photos of beautiful Colorado. Some of these photos are in panoramic format as large as ten feet in size. www.johnfielder.com
  7. The Room of Lost Things- Odd, eccentric and for some uncomfortable and creepy, The Room of Lost Things is certainly one of the most unique stops on the first friday art walk. Best way I could describe it would be sort of a voodoo, witch doctor type shop, and for that I promise you it is too awesome to skip this Friday. https://www.facebook.com/RoomOfLostThings/
  8. Kashi Kari Fine Art Gallery- An artist driven co-op of contemporary works from artists drawing from a wide range of experience and inspiration. http://www.kashikari.com/
  9. Kanon Art- A local artist owned gallery, Kanon art has an awesome collection of an extremely wide range of styles and mediums. Last month I definitely think I spent the most time in Kanon Art due to the quantity and quality of work on display. http://www.kanonart.com/
  10. Artists on Santa Fe- A gallery home to the work of 16 artists with different styles and mediums. The gallery is a large open space with the walls entirely covered in artwork creating sort of that messy studio vibe- and who doesn’t love that? http://www.artistsonsantafe.com/

Below I’ve attached a map with the locations of each gallery numbered in the order of the list above. (note that the point plotted for Room of Lost Things and Bitfactory overlap, as they are in the same building)
