ArtSpark ISEA Event 9/17/12

Nothing like a major international arts event to encourage another arts event to join the fray. Talking about none other than ISEA, the annual International (truly) Symposium on Electronic Arts that’s landing in Albuquerque in September (19–24). Co-hosted by 516 ARTS, UNM/IFDM and the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, it’s bound to be a fantastic series of exhibits, performances, screenings, panel discussions, field trips and parties.
Thanks to San Francisco artist and ISEA presenter Danielle Siembieda-Gribben , ArtSpark hatched the idea to create a day-long learning event to connect artists and arts organizations in New Mexico (mostly ABQ & Santa Fe) with others in the San Francisco Bay Area. (Danielle attended an ArtSpark/AspirationTech learning event back in April, and she invited ArtSpark to get involved in her ISEA project — a game called Montanas a Mesas. Of course we said “yes!”)
Result: ArtSpark is happily teaming up again with Aspiration Tech on September 17, 2012 in Albuquerque (right before ISEA opens). We’ll co-facilitate an entire day of opportunities for learning and sharing across artistic disciplines and communities, including small group discussions, case studies, interactive brainstorming and hands-on training. Topics (many suggested by ArtSparkers) on the agenda so far:
1) Which social media channels work best for me, especially for visibility and audience development/engagement?
2) What are the pluses and minuses of online fundraising platforms like kickstarter.com and indiegogo.com?
3) How can I effectively track my goals and activities, including work flow?
4) Five questions I’ve been wanting to ask another artist (about anything!)
5) What does “sustainability” really mean for me as an artist and/or arts organization?
Following the 9a-5p learning event, we’ll host a social meet-up from 5–7 for the larger ABQ and ISEA community. Both events will take place in downtown ABQ at The Cell, home of the Fusion Theatre Company. The cost for the learning event is by donation (sliding scale $35-$100) with lunch and social meet-up snacks and bevs included.
