Brian Riley. Alone Walking. 2018. Pastel on paper, 11" x 14"

This body of work titled COLORS is currently showing at The Montclair Public Library in Montclair, New Jersey as part of their ongoing Artist Series.

In COLORS Brian Riley expresses concepts of place, energy, body, balance, rhythm, nature, and abstraction into beautifully composed moments of colorful wonder. Under the influence of this artist’s hand, paint and pastel become vehicles to transport us into our own imagination.

Over the past 25 years Brian has found that the motivation behind the art he makes is rooted in a personal investigation into how the external affects the internal and vice versa. His art, like a murmuration, is the result of the melding of energies, guided by intuition. Creativity itself has been the muse he follows. Choosing to not over explain his work, Riley allows doorways into our personal interpretive world to open thus enabling creative energy to manifest as inspiration for the cycle to continue. “ If my love for creative energy can manifest into something that inspires, then the work I do is successful.” In the Fall of 2018 Brian Riley was a resident at the Con Artist Collective in New York City.
