The Promise

A poem

Photo by Jilbert Ebrahimi on Unsplash

Father
You once promised me forever
As we foraged in the forest.
You were my mentor through space and time.
You were a comrade in arms,
You were a port in a storm.
You were a wise elder,
A light in the darkness,
Down through the years.
Steadfast, dependable,
Surefooted through the fog of war.
