Bates Motel episode review — 4.7 — There’s No Place Like Home

Original air date: April 25, 2016
Director: Nestor Carbonell
Writer: Philip Buiser

Rating: 8/10

Norman returns home, now aware that his mother has married Romero, but unaware that the two are apparently in love. He goes to Romero’s office to thank him, but also to tell him to divorce her, saying that he’ll get a job and get his own insurance.

All in all, Norman is a complete asshole in this movie, and his attitude just builds and builds throughout the episode. It’s fascinating to see Freddie Highmore do this with the character.

He does take the news of Dylan and Emma well, but when they have Romero over for dinner, he seems like he’s on the verge of killing his new stepfather.

He eventually even drills a hole from the office to the motel room to watch them have sex, which of course is something from the movie.

This episode is just about as good as it gets. There’s an outstanding performance from Highmore, and the entire thing feels so tense.
