Columbo episode review — 1.6 — Short Fuse

Original air date: January 19, 1972
Director: Edward M. Abroms
Writer: Jackson Gillis

Rating: 7/10

Roddy McDowall plays the murderer in this one, and the method he chooses for murder is definitely amusing. Exploding cigars. Great stuff.

This episode has a pretty good supporting cast, with Ida Lupino, Anne Francis, and William Windom. It’s definitely not a bad episode, but I wish there could have been better material for everyone involved.

The conclusion to the episode is definitely the highlight. Columbo claims to have found the unopened box of cigars, and while on a cable car, Roddy McDowall’s character unravels in a fascinating way.
