Columbo episode review — 2.6 — A Stitch in Crime
Original air date: February 11, 1973
Director: Hy Averback
Writer: Shirl Hendryx
Rating: 9/10
The great Leonard Nimoy plays the murderer in this episode of Columbo that has always stood out to me. It’s not as wonderful as the best episodes of season 1, of course, but Nimoy’s presence elevates this one.
He’s just so delightful in the role, and it’s wonderful to see he and Falk play off each other.
The best scene of the episode — and one of the best in the series — is when Columbo gets angry at the doctor. I’ve said before how it’s really refreshing how this show portrays murderers as just normal people, and I’ve always enjoyed seeing the relative respect the lieutenant has for these people. Yet when this episode changes that, it’s wonderful.
