Deadwood episode review — 3.3 — True Colors

Original air date: June 25, 2006
Director: Gregg Fienberg
Writers: Regina Corrado and Ted Mann

Rating: 7/10

This isn’t quite as good as the two episodes preceding it, which is to be expected. But Brian Cox is great in everything he does, so he’s wonderful showing up here as Swearengen’s old friend.

Deadwood has been changing a lot now, with Mr. Wu fitting better into society. And Hearst is doing his thing, too, murdering people.

It’s not tremendously entertaining, exactly, but it’s remarkably well acted, and it’s interesting. And even when the show doesn’t excel, it still succeeds in that.
