Freddy’s Nightmares episode review — 1.3 — Killer Instinct

Original air date: October 22, 1988
Director: Mick Garris
Writer: Allen B. Ury

Rating: 5/10

Okay, so it definitely does seem like we’re sticking to the two halves of the episode being different stories part, though these stories are more thematically in common than the last one.

Lori Petty plays a once-great high school runner who’s kicked off the team some time after her mother dies. But after she’s gifted a magical necklace, she has a newfound determination to succeed.

She finds that the necklace lets her see herself winning, and then it happens. But she also finds that when she sees people dying through the necklace, they later do.

However, she ends up dying after a big race and her rival is left with the guilt for having interfered. This is our second story. And it’s not nearly as good, and still feels like it’s dealing with mostly the same themes.

But it does conclude with some nice bloodshed, though, so there’s that.

I have to say that most disappointing, so far, is Freddy’s near-uselessness as “host.” I’ve seen the gif of him jumping with a guitar and stuff, so I’m assuming he’ll have more to do at some point. Right now he feels like filler.
