Masters of Horror episode review — 2.12 — The Washingtonians

Original air date: January 26, 2007
Director: Peter Medak
Writers: Richard Chizmar and Johnathon Schaech (short story by Bentley Little)

Rating: 3/10

I made it through the entirety of this episode never really knowing if it was supposed to be funny. It’s just dumb. Sure, it ends on a joke (an awful one that doesn’t really make sense), but before that it seems to be mostly played pretty straight, though it is a ridiculous plot.

We follow this family that stumbles upon an awful secret about George Washington, that he was a cannibal. And there are a cult of “Washingtonians” still operating today that engage in cannibalism and will do anything they can to keep the truth from getting out.

You’d think them not eating peole would make the secret a little harder to uncover, but whatever.

It’s just dumb. It’s bad. And it wastes the very talented Saul Rubinek. This is definitely the worst episode of the show so far.
