Masters of Horror episode review — 2.9 — Right to Die

Original air date: January 5, 2007
Director: Rob Schmidt
Writer: John Esposito

Rating: 4/10

If I have something nice to say about this episode, it’s that I was never really aware of where it was going next. It has an unpredictable plot, largely the result of not showing us everything early, and showing us later in flashbacks.

The episode follows Cliff Addison (Martin Donovan), who gets in a car accident that nearly kills his wife.

He makes the decision to take her off life support, and then is the subject of a media frenzy. It’s a bit like Gone Girl, with public perception receiving a good amount of attention, though never all that much purpose.

It might be another attempt at one of those political episodes that Joe Dante has done, with a bit of satire, but if that’s the case, it doesn’t come across too well. This might be my least favorite episode.
