Movie Review: 1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982)

--

Alright, so this is a classic Italian knockoff film clearly inspired by Escape from New York and The Warriors. It has its problems, the biggest of which is that all the exposition (and there is some, and there actually is a plot that’s relatively easy to follow, a nice change of pace for an Italian exploitation film) comes way too late in the film.

It’s definitely not great at what it does, but for a low budget Italian ripoff movie, it’s pretty good.

So the Bronx (my former home) has been condemned, and has fallen into the hands of rival gangs, with even cops not wanting to set foot in it. Anne (Stefania Girolami), the inheriter to a company that is responsible for most of the evils in the world, fleas to there to hide from her responsibilities. She ends up taking up with Trash (Marco Di Gregorio) of the Riders.

Most of the movie has a pretty good cast, including Americans Vic Morrow (complete with Edward Mannix’s voice) and Fred Williamson, who plays the Ogre, the head of a rival gang. But Di Gregorio and whoever does the dubbing for his voice are truly awful as Trash. Each line is delivered in a monotone, and Di Gregorio just kind of stares…
