Movie Review: 52 Pick-Up (1986)

52 Pick-Up is a very sleazy movie. It follows a businessman (Roy Scheider) married to a woman running for office, who’s blackmailed due to an affair he had with a much younger woman (Kelly Preston).

That seems like a pretty standard plot for a crime film, but it gets so much sleazier and more interesting when the whole crime is carried out by a couple of people that run what’s I guess like a peep show/porno business. It’s really insane.

And the villains are awesome. They’re played by John Glover, Robert Trebor, and Clarence Williams III, and they’re all great for very different reasons. Glover really steals the show as kind of the mastermind behind the plan, and I do like that each of the villains has a very different personality.

And they’re just awesome. They make the movie in a lot of ways. There’s a great scene where they’re threatening/intimidating Roy Scheider’s character with a video of them killing his girlfriend and framing him, and it’s really effective. The movie as a whole isn’t outstanding, but certain aspects of it really work.
