Movie Review: Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe (1990)

Who in their right mind ever looked at Jesse “The Body” Ventura and said, “This guy should be a movie star”?

This isn’t his first movie, of course, but it’s perhaps his best known lead role, being somewhat of a minor cult classic.

And it’s bad. It starts out pretty fun, actually. The whole intergalactic police officer thing is amusing, and there is some fun action.

But after a while, it gets really, really dry. The movie gets kind of domestic for a while, with Tommy, a young boy trying to deal with his powers, as he’s like the future antichrist basically. It’s sort of like the plot to Rian Johnson’s Looper.

Just about everything I enjoyed about this movie came in the first half. It’s a real slog after that.

Rating: 2/10
