Movie Review: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Clearly inspired by Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator is a mess, but I guess if you just want to see a xenomorph fight a predator, you get it. It’s not intelligent, features no real characters, but it’s here.
The movie does have an attempt at a kind of buildup, which is nice, but I wish the movie made more of an effort with its characters, who basically just exist to get killed.
The first time I saw this movie was in the theater, and I screwed up on the time and missed the first fifteen or twenty minutes or so. And honestly, I really didn’t miss anything, even though I missed all the plot, because let’s face it, you’re not here for the plot.
As bad as this movie is, and as bad as some of its effects are, the strength of the design of the monsters does shine through. The lore of the Predator species wanting to hunt down the xenomorphs makes a lot of sense (and of course was hinted at in Predator 2), but that’s about all positive I have to say about it.
The movie’s incredibly forgettable, and quite frankly a bit boring.
