Movie Review: Back to the Future Part III (1990)

As a big fan of the western (it’s actually my favorite movie genre), I really enjoy Back to the Future Part III. It’s really enjoyable as a continuation of the series, as well as an homage to classic westerns.
It’s a funny, entertaining movie, that gives you more of the characters you love: Doc (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty (Michael J. Fox). The only thing that’s really different from the other movies is of course the setting in 1885, and I guess the fact that Doc now has a love interest in Clara Clayton (Mary Steenburgen). I like that addition. It adds another solid character to the mix and works as a way to create drama and tension.

And, you know what? This movie has an incredible climax. It’s nearly as good as the climax to the first Back to the Future, with Doc and Marty having to get the time machine up to 88 miles per hour by pushing it with a train. It’s really great and exciting.
And I like the stuff with the main villain, too — Mad Dog Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson). At different times, Marty and Doc have confrontations with him, and it culminates in a satisfying and funny way.

This is my second favorite movie in the series. I just find it more fun than the second one, though it can’t quite compare with the first.
