Movie Review: Bandidas (2006)
Bandidas is okay. I feel like it really sucks you in with the beauty and attraction of its two leads in Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek, and unfortunately doesn’t do all that much with that.
Now the two of them are quite good, and their chemistry is palpable. I prefer Cruz (both looks-wise and definitely the performance), but both are hard to take your eyes off of. Even Steve Zahn is pretty good.
So as a buddy comedy kind of thing, it has its moments of charm, but a story that doesn’t really work, and filmmaking that’s rather unimpressive. Even the score — which is a huge thing with me for my favorite genre in the western — is pretty lackluster.
I certainly don’t regret having seen it, but it’s not as good as it could have been.
