Movie Review: Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time (1991)

What was it that started the whole fantasy world and normal world collide and create comedy subgenre? Was it Star Trek IV? Because I’d compare this movie (unfavourably) to that, and favourably to that He-Man movie with Dolph Lundgren. Also the first Thor movie I guess.

Marc Singer returns as Dar, the Beastmaster, and I don’t remember him being this boring. He’s a charisma vacuum, and Kari Wuhrer playing the normal modern-day Earth girl Jackie Trent is a bit more fun, but the two have no chemistry together.

The movie’s definitely a bore when it’s back in Dar’s world, but picks up a bit when they end up in 1991 Los Angeles. A bit.

Though it’s a low budget, you can’t really tell. The movie suffers most from a bonkers script.
