Movie Review: Bolero (1984)

Bolero is a notable entry in the “John Derek wants to see his significantly younger wife fuck other people” genre. Now it’s definitely not a good movie, but it does prominently feature Bo Derek as one of the sexiest women who’s ever lived, so it’s far from without its redeeming qualities.

She definitely doesn’t appear to be much of an actress, and she certainly doesn’t pass for as young as the movie portrays her. But the movie’s not about her acting or her ability to convincingly play a 23-year-old. The movie’s about the character’s sexual awakening, and about Bo Derek being sexy as all hell.

It’s far from a compelling drama, and it’s possible with a better performance that this wouldn’t be true. But as a sleazy exercise in erotic filmmaking it kind of works.
