Movie Review: Color Out of Space (2019)

I’ve always known that Nicolas Cage — one of film’s biggest memes — is a great actor with the right role. Given the reviews this movie had gotten, I expected the good Cage. I expected Mandy Cage.

That’s not really what we got, but this is a great example of how a strong film around him can elevate a pretty goofy performance.

Cage is most certainly over the top, but for the most part, it works really well for this movie about a meteor that crashes, infects the water supply, and turns people crazy.

It’s a pretty disturbing watch, especially when the body horror kicks in.

But it’s also uniquely beautiful. The colors, the lights, and the cinematography create something that’s compelling to look at, but still considerably creepy.

It’s a great example of a movie you appreciate more for its visuals and mood rather than for its plot. But it does a fantastic job with that that it’s ultimately quite compelling.
