Movie Review: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is an incredibly tense movie, with two plots — the human and the ape — mirroring each other in an interesting way. This movie succeeds at having better human characters than Rise of the Planet of the Apes — with Gary Oldman’s performance really helping there — while still continuing the arc of Caesar (Andy Serkis).

This movie really succeeds in its buildup, even if the climax is a bit of a letdown. It’s a very effective movie because of the buildup. There’s constant tension, and the movie allows very different points of view to make perfect logical sense for the characters.

And of course the visual effects are amazing, and the action is pretty well done, though there isn’t a whole lot of it.
