Movie Review: Def by Temptation (1990)

Lloyd Kaufman apparently claims that this is the best movie Troma ever released, and while I haven’t seen that many, this is certainly one of the strongest. It’s not directed or produced by Kaufman, as Troma just handled the distribution, so this movie is far more serious in tone than the typical Troma fare, though it does have a sense of humour about itself.

The script from director/writer/star James Bond III is really great. The dialogue is sharp and often times very funny. And the characters are incredibly likable, and the cast is solid.

As a horror movie, the film is far from perfect, though I do think most of its issues come from its lack of budget. It’s a very well made movie despite this, though, and it’s shot particularly well. Some of the scenes are outright creepy, too, but the movie could have used a couple more really solid scare scenes to keep its momentum.

Rating: 7/10
