Movie Review: Desperado (1995)

Alright, so let’s be clear about one thing. It is utterly insane to be pursuing revenge for a dead lover after you’ve met Salma Hayek.

She’s still amazing today, but she’s probably never looked better than in her breakout role.

That having been said, this is really quite the entertaining movie. Antonio Banderas is a lot of fun in the titular role. He’s easy to root for and he has incredible chemistry with Hayek.

But (other than Hayek) the real highlight is the action. There are a couple of fantastic scenes, with the big shootout at Cheech Marin’s bar being worth the price of admission.

The movie really slows down after that scene, for the most part, taking time to develop the relationship between the two lead characters, and that stuff mostly works. But unfortunately the action that comes after that just isn’t as satisfying.

Rating: 7/10
