Movie Review: Double Down (2005)

Neil Breen’s surrealist filmography starts off with a bang in Double Down.

The movie makes no sense, but there is semblance of sense. You get the idea that it all makes sense to Neil Breen, the writer-star-director.

Breen clearly wants to be a David Lynch-type filmmaker, and to be fair, a lot of David Lynch’s stuff doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But Lynch is also a good filmmaker, and gets professional actors who are good at their jobs. Breen can’t say any of that.

Breen’s movie is definitely a trip. It’s incredibly repetitive, but at the same time, it’s truly a new experience, not really comparable to anything.

It’s a movie that has to be seen to be believed. And I understand that’s largely true for all of Neil Breen’s films, but this is the first one I’ve seen, so it’s really the only one I can speak for.
