Movie Review: Emmanuelle 4 (1984)

These Emmanuelle movies never really have plots, so why do I find this movie so confusing? It goes into full Face/Off territory, with Emmanuelle (Sylvia Kristel) getting plastic surgery in order to look different and be played by Mia Nygren.

I’m not sure why. Perhaps Kristel was just done with this shit at this point (this is her last movie in the series, to my knowledge, and it’s the last official movie in the series, though unofficial sequels and many ripoffs still followed). Anyways the new Emmanuelle is technically a virgin, and wants to sleep with all of Brazil.

A few scenes are very well done and erotic, and the movie isn’t nearly as graphic as previous entries in the series, which I didn’t mind one bit. There’s one particularly impressive (but also not erotic, and actually quite disgusting) sex scene outside in the pouring rain and mud. But I don’t even think the woman was Emmanuelle? Emmanuelle lives with a few other women, and for stretches of the movie, it’s not really about her, but instead about the others.

The plot is a mess, and the movie doesn’t have enough titillation to really make it worth watching. It’s the worst of the series.
