Movie Review: Evil Dead (2013)

Evil Dead is basically what the original The Evil Dead was trying to do, but with a budget. There’s no real campiness because the movie has a budget, and as a result, the film doesn’t have that much of a personality.

It’s not a bad movie certainly. It’s fairly effective and most of the effects look pretty good.

Except for the eyes, I guess

And this movie tries to make a name for itself, which is respectable for a remake. It doesn’t just duplicate what we’ve seen before, and doesn’t even include the character of Ash. There are some nods to the original movies, but it’s nothing excessive or distracting.

I think the biggest problem is that this movie isn’t memorable. That’s better than just recreating memorable moments from other movies, sure, but like I said, this movie doesn’t have a lot of personality and doesn’t do a great deal to stand out.
