Movie Review: Fun in Acapulco (1963)

It’s a very standard Elvis movie, but it’s at least somewhat elevated by the presence of the beautiful Ursula Andress.

Elvis is as charming as ever as Mike Windgren, an American in Acapulco. There’s a surprising amount of depth to his character for what is essentially just a lighthearted comedy. I can’t say he really fully realizes the depth of the character, but he’s charming whenever he’s paired with a woman, or a kid, or whenever he’s singing.

The musical highlight here is “Bossa Nova Baby,” which was a top-10 hit.

All of the actual Mexico footage was shot second unit, basically, because Elvis wasn’t allowed in the country for completely bullshit reasons. To be honest, I couldn’t really tell.

Rating: 6/10
