Movie Review: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)

Proudly showing off the recently American military-free Okinawa, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla moves away from Tokyo to more exotic locales, which look great.

This plot is wild, but there’s some good sci-fi action not involving the monsters, which is nice. And there’s plenty of monster action. There’s even a new monster, King Caesar, who is basically worshiped and has to be sung to in order to emerge.

Anyways, he’s really weird, and completely useless.

Mechagodzilla really makes for a great villain. He starts out the movie terrorizing a city under fake Godzilla skin, which is kind of neat.

And of course, his fight with Godzilla is awesome.

This is one of my favorite movies from the original series. It’s just a lot of fun, and it isn’t as obviously aimed as kids as some of the ones from the late ’60s and ‘70s.

Rating: 8/10
