Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has some really good sequences in it overall. The climactic act is very well done, and definitely leaves you wanting more.

Unfortunately, this movie is dragged down by a lot of teen drama. Sure, it’s appropriate, given the characters’ ages, but that’s something that seems more at place in earlier movies. At this point, the threat against Hogwarts and the wizarding world in general has been made clear, and the series is finally set on where the plot is headed. It’s not a great time to introduce all these other things to distract from it.

Fortunately, though, the performances are quite good. I mentioned that early on, Daniel Radcliffe was truly one of the weak points of the series, but by now, he has greatly improved, and has even become a strength. He’s no Alan Rickman, of course, who definitely shines in this movie and in the series as a whole.

Rating: 6/10
