Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

This seems to be a lot of people’s least favorite in the film series. The book actually made me stop reading the series for a while, but it was this movie — which I found to be pretty enjoyable — that encouraged me to go back to reading the books when I was in 7th or 8th grade.

While it’s still over 2 hours long, this movie has a pretty fast pace to it, and manages to be pretty exciting.

It’s not a lot of groundbreaking stuff, but there is a lot of action here, and it’s a bit unlike what had been seen previously in the series.

It’s fairly dark, and while you manage as the viewer to be one step ahead of the movie’s characters, that’s definitely understandable, given Harry’s age.

This movie also presents a pretty awesome secondary villain in Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton). This movie is one of the few in the series that gives a good reason for the majority of people to be against Harry and what he believes in, and so much of that comes from Staunton’s performance. It’s a little silly, but it works.

The movie works, too. There’s not a lot of nonsense here. It’s pretty straightforward.

Rating: 6/10
