Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
This is widely considered to be one of the best entries in the series, and for the life of me, I don’t know why. Chris Columbus is out as director, and in steps Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity), so you’d think the movie would have a much more adult tone. And to a certain extent, it does. The movie is quite dark, and it certainly reflects the fact that the charactors (and, of course, the actors) have aged.
Unfortunately, though, it’s still very silly.
There’s plenty that’s good, of course, but as the only film in the seris completely removed from the threat of Voldemort, the movie suffers. The villain of the entire movie is a red herring, and it’s not like the actual reveal is too satisfying.
It’s definitely not a terrible movie, and while it’s my least favorite of the series so far, it wouldn’t be my least favorite overall. So it has that going for it.
