Movie Review: Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988)

I’ve been aware of this movie for quite a while. I mean, you just don’t forget a title like that, and as I’ve seen more and more ’80s b-movies, I’ve come to really appreciate Michelle Bauer and especially Linnea Quigley when they’re on screen. They’re both really enjoyable here, and perfectly utilized.

It’s definitely not a great movie. It’s very clearly a low-budget affair, but it lives up to its sleazy and self-aware title. It doesn’t really succeed as a horror movie. There really isn’t a whole lot of buildup, and the chainsaw scenes are somewhat disappointing (probably the budget, but possibly censors, because while you see a lot of blood, you don’t really see chainsaws do anything).

However, it’s good for a few laughs. It sort of parodies noir movies with its narration and its chainsmoking protagonist. The best scenes of course involve either Bauer or Quigley. The rest of the movie is pretty dull.

Rating: 3/10
