Movie Review: House of Usher (1960)

Unlike The Tomb of Ligeia, this movie doesn’t have the elaborate production. With a small cast and few sets, the movie feels and looks a bit like a play. But working with what he’s got, Roger Corman still makes the most of it.

The exterior shots of the house are outstanding. I don’t know if it’s a matte painting or if there’s some miniature work going, but it looks really creepy and atmospheric. Great stuff.

Like the other Price-Corman-Poe movies, this is a lot bigger on atmosphere than it is story, but I love me some atmospheric gothic horror.
