Movie Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

This movie has definitely gotten a lot of hate, and I definitely understand why. But it has some redeeming qualities, for sure; it’s not all bad.

The biggest problem with this movie is probably the supporting characters. There are too many of them, and most of them don’t have a whole lot to offer. Shia Labeouf is okay as Mutt, but Ray Winstone is obnoxious as the worst character in the series. And it’s not like the late John Hurt brings anything to the table.

As for the action, it’s mostly too over the top. There’s a pretty great chase sequence early in the movie set at the college, and that’s easily the best sequence of the movie. Once they get to South America, the action is ridiculous and even visually unappealing.

And the plot itself is more than a little silly. I mean, I guess every Indiana Jones movie is, if you think about it, but did anyone want Indiana Jones trying to prove the existence of inter-dimensional aliens?

Rating: 5/10
