Movie Review: It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955)

This is a pretty standard ’50s sci-fi movie that’s certainly elevated by Ray Harryhausen’s effects work. It’s one of his earlier movies, but his talent is on full display with his giant octopus.

And the movie does a decent job with buildup, too. While the stop motion effects are wonderful, the movie doesn’t have that much of them, instead with its characters investigating some strange phenomena that they only later realize is because of a giant octopus.

I was entertained by this movie. There’s not much to the story or to the characters, but the movie does its best to pay off some nice building of tension.

Rating: 6/10
