Movie Review: It’s Alive (1974)

--

It’s Alive is definitely a strange film. It could be a much more comedic film than it is. Really the only thing that makes it a dark comedy is the premise. Two new parents’ mutant baby goes around killing people.

It’s an incredibly silly premise, but the movie for the most part takes it seriously, and uses it as a backdrop for some commentary on disheartened parents. It’s an effective film.

Larry Cohen’s a very interesting filmmaker. He’s technically sound, but not the most stylistically interesting. And while he’s into schlock, he usually seems to have something to say with his movies, and I definitely found that to be the case here.
