Movie Review: Logan’s Run (1976)

Logan’s Run is a great little imaginative science fiction film. It’s a visual treat, and it has a compelling dystopian plot.

The world the movie creates is very believable. There’s the renewal scene early on which lets us understand what’s going on. And the set design is truly inspired, and even the miniatures are pretty good.

As a character, Logan 5 (Michael York) isn’t the most compelling, but pairing him with Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter), they really make for likable protagonists that you want to root for. The plot takes plenty of twists and turns, constantly putting them in new danger.

Some of it has dated. Some of it feels like it’s from the ’60s, but there definitely seems to be a social commentary element, even down to the set design, which makes the inside look a bit like a shopping mall.

It’s a very good movie. It’s more action packed than I expected it to be. It’s an intelligent science fiction movie that manages to be very exciting as well. It’s definitely a rarity.
