Movie Review: Lumberjack Man (2015)

--

Wait, so this isn’t a Hatchet movie? It’s pretty much the same thing: hyper-violent comedy that’s a throwback to ’80s slasher movies.

Considering I’m sure this movie doesn’t have a budget, it’s arguably more impressive than Hatchet. And considering it actually got a few mild laughs out of me, it’s more successful than Hatchet. It doesn’t have many recognizable names or faces, but it does have Michael Madsen, for whatever that’s worth (not much).

The plot concerns a demonic lumberjack (Brandon Ford) coming after people at a Christian camp. So in other words, there’s not much plot.

But there is a lot of blood. And a lot of tits. So really even though it’s a Christian camp, it’s no different than any other teen slasher movie, and it arguably doubles down on the nudity and hot women.

There were at least three nude scenes, with one actually being a fairly effective comedy scene. This is obviously a self-aware slasher movie, as all movies since Scream. It gets irritating after a while, but it does have its moments.

The kills are for the most part well done. There were some that looked really bad. This movie clearly didn’t have the budget for big practical effects, and they cut some corners with some bad CGI. But most of them were pretty good.

It loses a lot of steam towards the end. It’s about an hour and 45 minutes, and that’s far too long for a movie like this. By the time it hit 90 minutes, I felt like there was nowhere for the movie to go.

Rating: 5/10
