Movie Review: Mortuary (1983)

Mortuary is no masterpiece, but it is a pretty creepy movie. A teenage girl, Christine (Mary Beth McDonough), finds her father dead in a pool. He’s murdered, but the death is ruled accidental. She suspects foul play, though, and starts seeing some creepy things all around her that seem to confirm her suspicions, chiefly a hooded creepy figure.

Everyone around her insists that she’s imagining or dreaming it all, but then people start dying, as people tend to do in slasher movies.

This movie suffers from some poor pacing. The first two-thirds or so are really good, and quite exciting.

But following that, it’s not that good. There’s no real momentum to the story, and it slows down, while also getting less creepy.

I still enjoy the movie, but it’s a few steps short of a classic.
