Movie Review: Patrick (1978)

’70s weird is great. ’70s Australian weird…maybe that can’t even be topped. While I’m perhaps predisposed to enjoy a movie that shares my first name, Patrick is an endlessly interesting and entertaining movie.

It’s basically Carrie with a young man who’s basically in a coma.

Of course, it’s not told from his perspective, but instead from a nurse who’s intent on helping him, while everybody else at the hospital could take or leave Patrick (indeed, there is an effort to kill him later).

It’s weird, and it’s well acted, which keeps you grounded, despite the weirdness. And it’s a fun movie, even though it’s arguably a bit too long at 110 minutes. But it’s worth your time.

Rating: 6/10
