Movie Review: Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985)

I feel like I’ve been deceived. This is obviously a kids movie, right? Or at least a family movie. But the amount of adults that truly love this movie was encouraging.

I can sum my thoughts of this movie up in three words: I don’t get it. I don’t get the appeal of the Pee-wee character. I don’t know if he’s supposed to be a child, or if he’s supposed to be a mentally challenged adult. I just don’t get it.

I don’t get what I’m supposed to be getting out of this. I will admit to largely enjoying the last half hour or so of this movie. It managed to be pretty funny, largely from some sight gags, and from instances where Reubens wasn’t doing his annoying Pee-wee voice. So there’s that.
