Movie Review: Red Christmas (2016)
Though I can’t say I enjoyed this movie all that much overall, I’ll at least give it credit for its fairly promising premise. The child born of a failed abortion seeks vengeance at his lost mother’s mansion.
And it helps that the woman who tried to abort him is played by Dee Wallace, which is sort of a fun twist on everybody’s favorite movie mom.
And while the premise itself sets the movie up to be a political nightmare, outside of a fairly rough and poorly written opening act, that really is just the setup. We’re not dealing too much with pro-life and pro-choice stuff here. That’s just the backdrop to the story.
And once it gets going, the movie is very violent and bloody. Just like you’d probably want.
But the movie does lack in suspense. And while I like Dee Wallace, most of the other performances are pretty mediocre.
It’s an okay movie overall. It’s definitely not going to make it into my annual Christmas rotation.
