Movie Review: Road Trip: Beer Pong (2009)

--

The sequel that nobody asked for is pretty much what I’d expect. It’s basically a direct to video National Lampoon teen sex comedy that uses DJ Qualls as the Tom Green role, where he’s giving a college tour as part of the frame narrative, but he’s not involved in the story otherwise.

It’s bad when DJ Qualls is your most likable player.

Well I guess technically he’s not, because there’s Julianna Guill as Katy.

Honestly, the plot doesn’t make much sense. Her boyfriend is trying to cheat on her to hook up with a woman he has a history with who’s now a beer pong model (?). But the movie never really presents Katy as anything other than genuine. She’s maybe a bit clingy, transferring to his university without telling him. But we really don’t sympathize with the protagonist at all in him wanting to get with the beer pong model.

But of course that’s only part of it. This movie has a few kind of funny scenes, mostly the result of Danny Pudi as a pretty offensive racial stereotype. But it’s that kind of boner comedy stuff that I normally don’t like all that much, and there’s not much of an exception here.

Rating: 2/10
