Movie Review: Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991)

This is definitely the strangest adaptation of the Pinocchio legend I’ve ever seen. The movie’s an oddity right from the get-go, with a toy store called Petto’s (named after Giopetto, but pronounced Pedo’s, so idk). Mickey Rooney gives it his all as the character of Joe Petto, who has constructed a boy to be his son.

It’s great to see such a high-profile actor in this weird little movie. Like sure, he’s well past his prime, but I don’t know, it’s just neat.

And don’t be thinking that this is a kid-friendly movie, based on the poster or the fact that it’s a Pinocchio movie. It gets incredibly violent and gory in the final act, and I’m here for it.

It’s by no means good, but like three of the other four movies in the series, it’s definitely interesting.

Rating: 4/10
