Movie Review: Snapdragon (1993)

--

This is sort of just a poor man’s version of Basic Instinct, starring one of the great sex symbols of the 1990s in Pamela Anderson. Anderson does a surprisingly decent job as a young woman suffering from amnesia who may or may not be a serial killer.

We’re kind of led to believe that our protagonist will be police officer Peckham (Chelsea Field), a woman moved from vice to homicide for the purposes of the investigation. All the murders happened during sexual intercourse, so it makes sense.

But we end up following her boyfriend, police psychologist Doc Hoogstraten (Steven Bauer). It’s unfortunate, too, because he gives the worst performance in the movie, particularly when he finds his friend dead.

He strikes up an interest in the beautiful amnesiac woman, and it’s not long before they have sex. A lot.

This is obviously why they cast Pamela Anderson, and they could have done far worse.

The movie has a really dumb twist towards the end, but Anderson does a lot to sell it. That’s why I say she’s actually decent here. It’s a pretty tough role, and she’s mostly up for it. But the movie still isn’t very good.
