Movie Review: Society (1989)

Society was definitely a lot different than I was expecting. While it’s definitely satirical, it’s far less comedic than its poster would imply, or Brian Yuzna’s previous work on Re-Animator, for that matter.

It’s absolutely messed up, but the buildup is done right. Bill Whitney (Billy Warlock) is a compelling character that we come to care about because we get so much time with him before anything truly weird happens.

It’s a hard movie to talk about because it is so weird, and so unpredictable. The image above should give you at least somewhat of an idea of what goes on here. Actually maybe not, because it’s still not really what you’d expect.

It’s just the right level of revolting, as well. It’s absolutely disgusting, but it wasn’t repulsive for me.

I really enjoyed it. It’s genuinely creative, and quite interesting.
